As we age, our skin gradually loses its youthful appearance, with sagging skin and volume loss the most obvious changes.
While the early signs of changes might not be the time to book in a surgical facelift, it might be time for what has been called the ‘lunchtime facelift’: thread lifting.
Read on to learn more about what the thread lifting procedure involves and how it treats the skin.
What is thread lifting?
The thread lifting procedure is non-surgical and could be an option for people who don’t want the downtime or risks associated with a traditional facelift surgery.
It repositions sagging tissue in the face, particularly the cheeks, jowls and neck, giving you a more sculped, youthful and refreshed look.
The procedure uses a medical-grade thread, which is inserted into the fatty tissue just under your skin, and gently pulled, giving a ‘lifted’ effect.
At Bass Coast Skin Doctors, we use Silhouette Soft™ threads with 360-degree cone technology, which is manufactured from an extensively studied suture material with more than 30 years of safety data. The great thing about Silhouette Soft™ is that it does more than just ‘lift’ – it stimulates type 1 collagen production in the skin, resulting in smoother and more glowing skin.
The results of thread lifting are subtle and natural looking, and the thread lift procedure can be targeted at particular areas of concern.
Being a non-surgical procedure, threat lifting is a suitable choice for people who don’t want the risks associated with surgery or for those who are not yet ready to have a facelift.
How does thread lifting treat skin?
Thread lifting is popular among people who are beginning to notice sagging and tiredness in their skin due to ageing.
During the thread lifting procedure, a needle is inserted and a thread with 360-degree cones grips the tissue right beneath the skin, which are lifted when the thread is pulled tight.
While the threads under your skin cause no damage, their presence stimulates the natural production of collagen in the affected area. The collagen then fills the gaps in sagging skin, creating a plumper, more youthful appearance.
The thread lift procedure takes about 90 minutes, and we recommend patients rest for 48 hours post-procedure.
Those who undertake the procedure may feel some light pressure of tightening, and some slight bruising or swelling is not uncommon.
What kind of results can I expect from thread lifting?
Many people choose a thread lift procedure for facial areas that are starting to sag over time, including jowls, jawline, and cheeks.
The results of thread lifting are more subtle and natural than those of a facelift and the results are temporary.
The treatment normally lasts for about two years, when the threads used in the procedure are eventually absorbed by the tissue underneath your skin.
